[5in5] – day 5

(check out the rest of the songs below!!)

time to fly
by daniel john

i was thinking of our children
all the advice that you & I would want to give
cause if something ever happened
want you to know you only get one chance to live

when you hit frustration’s wall
look up for the way above it all

it’s time to fly
time to soar
spread your wings
live the life
you were made for

you’ve heard that faith can move a mountain
so why get tangled up by simple fears
the distractions of these worries
will never add another second to your years

fly my love

  1. I like it. 🙂 Thanks again for hosting another great week, Dan. I think I wrote six songs last year…five for the [5in5] and one spontaneously at an altar call. Isn’t that crazy? We complain about the late nights and hard work, but for some of us your challenge here is the only thing making us sit down and produce. It’s amazing when I think back about the dozen or so people that wrote every day – 60 songs this week? Wow. Some of them (mine included) were mostly just good discipline, but some of them were just plain GOOD. To get a few golden ones out of this week is awesome. Can’t thank you enough for what you encouraged all of us to produce. Very cool.

    1. 60 is insane to think about. Wow indeed!

Ruth, thanks for being a part of this – you are a VERY gifted songwriter and I cannot wait to hear what else you write this year (hint, hint).

      1. Thanks, Dan – that means a lot coming from a very gifted songwriter. : ) I’ve been putting some measures in place in our worship team to make sure the songwriters keep writing. We’ll let you have a listen, too. Actually, Fajkus has an AMAZING song called “The Blood of Jesus Sets Me Free” that we’ve been doing almost non-stop for the last month or so. Ask him to send that one to you!

  2. Here, here, what Ruth said! Dan, thanks so much for challenging me to put my music out for others – not just to listen to and comment on, but for God to speak through. I love what Dorothea said on a previous post that you’ve unleashed a damn through this challenge. I just want to say that when I listen to everyone’s songs, I feel that I’m drinking from the wellsprings inside of them…and through this challenged, you’ve helped me unearth things in my own life. (come to think of it, Mary’s song “Unearthed” explains this better than I just did.) Thanks again. Can’t wait for next year’s challenge. Will keep writing and posting in the meantime.

  3. I’ve enjoyed listening to everyone’s songs again this year. Thanks for taking the lead in this project. Den thought you could try a 1-in-30 song challenge where everyone writes one song and then rework it for 30 days. (Kind of like what you do in grad school for your dissertation except in grad school its 1-in-5-7 or more years.)

    1. Den is always ahead of the curve 🙂

Before we started this year, I wanted to challenge the songwriters to be more disciplined & to rework/refine at least one of their songs. I loved reading your suggestion – thanks!!
